Protocols in Puerto Rico

COVID-19 protocols and regulations are updated periodically on this website. These regulations may change with little or no notice.

As of June 12, 2022, all pandemic-era protocols for domestic travelers have been lifted. Travelers visiting from the mainland US are no longer required to provide proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test, or complete a travel declaration form before their journey.

Processes for symptomatic travelers: Travelers who test positive while on the Island must quarantine and cover their own medical expenses and the related costs of any possible extended stay.

Arriving at SJU airport

As of January 5, 2023, a testing requirement has been reinstated for international travelers arriving from certain locations—see below.

As of June 12, 2022, pandemic-era protocols for travelers on US airlines have been lifted. Please confirm with your airline 24-hours before your scheduled departure.

  • As of March 10, 2022, all pandemic-era protocols for domestic travelers have been lifted. Travelers visiting from the mainland US are no longer required to provide proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test, or complete a travel declaration form before their journey.

  • According to CDC guidelines, U.S. citizens arriving on most international flights do not need to provide any additional documentation (such as proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test).

(January 2023) All travelers (regardless of citizenship) arriving in the U.S. from China, Hong Kong, or Macau, or travelers who have been in these locations in the 10 days before travel and are flying to the U.S. from certain airports will need to provide a negative Covid-19 viral test before travel. Click here for more details.

International travelers who are neither U.S. citizens nor permanent residents must still present proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.

Throughout the trip:

  • Keep your vaccine card or a digital copy of your vaccine card on you at all times.

  • Share your travel insurance information with GreenWood staff.

  • We recommend masking in close indoor spaces, and be respectful of the masking preferences of all group participants and staff.

  • Notify GreenWood staff via text if you feel unwell.

  • If experiencing symptoms you will need to take a PCR test and quarantine while awaiting results.

  • Negative results will allow a traveler to rejoin the group when they feel well.

If you get COVID-19 while traveling:

  • You will need to isolate for a minimum of 5 days (counting your positive test or first day of symptoms as day 0).

  • Travelers will be able to access GreenWood staff 24/7, and we will be there to support you.

  • Travelers can test again after 5 days, and you can rejoin the trip after getting a negative test, provided your symptoms are improving and you have been fever-free for 24 hours.

  • Per CDC guidelines, travelers who end isolation and rejoin the trip will need to wear a mask around others at all times for 10 days or until two sequential antigen tests taken 48 hours apart return negative.
